FyDySyFy presents Trepidation 2009, a Bittercon®

For immediate release.


FyDySyFy is pleased to announce that the Trepidation convention committee's bid to host the 2009 Bittercon® has been accepted.

While originally scheduled for the same weekend as Worldcon, the voters were apparently impressed by the Trepidation committee's declaration that 7 days was all they needed to assemble a convention.

The 24-hour-convention will open at 3 p.m. on July 31 and run until the following afternoon.

The convention will be held in the public areas of the Hyatt Regency, San Francisco, with the bulk of programming taking place in the Eclipse Lounge and surrounding areas.

If you can see the Wicker Death Star, you're at the con. If you're too drunk to see the Wicker Death Star, congratulations, it's been a good con for you.

Please note: there will be no signs posted at the con as most of the hotel's management team has no idea there's a con happening. In order to be a member of Trepidation, you must be capable of finding the Eclipse Lounge on your own.

The convention’s theme will be "Blame Canada".

All attending memberships to the convention will be comped. Just show up at registration at the Eclipse Lounge and we'll slap a badge on you. Or maybe we'll just slap you.

Whether or not you told us you were coming, if you don't show up, you owe us a buck for your supporting membership.

Please be generous in tipping the wait staff; we're asking them to put up with a lot. Just because the con's cheap, doesn't mean you get to be cheap, too.

The first guest, Fan Guest of Honor Jason Schachat, has been announced with more to follow.

"It's like winning first prize at a community college film festival," Schachat said.

Costuming is encouraged, and you will be judged.

Those wishing to participate in the virtual art show should submit jpg files to the art show coordinator.

Our host hotel is the San Francisco Hyatt Regency, located at the corner of California and Market Streets in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

Our room block has already sold out and we have no overflow hotel. However, some rooms may still be available directly from the hotel or from Expedia.com. We recommend checking in early as the hotel informs us that they are overbooked.

Parking is available at the hotel for $50. The parking garage at the nearby Embarcadero Center is less expensive, but closes at midnight. Metered on-street parking is available in the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. Meters are free after 6 p.m., but if you leave your car overnight, be advised that you will have to pay the meter rates on Saturday. There is also Five Star Elite Parking Garage at 250 Clay Street a few blocks away from the hotel as well as many other parking garages in the surrounding area.

The convention is easily accessible by public transit. The Embarcadero Station, serving BART and MUNI, is located just steps from the hotel's entrance. The F-Line historic trolly runs nearby along Market Street and the California Street Cable Car line ends in front of the hotel.
